MULLING IT OVER - KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
In this activity some people knew the trick (had the power of knowledge), and some did not. We decided that it's a lot more fun to know the trick than to be tricked. Later . . . we tried out the newfound knowledge on the visiting grandparents. Yes! Having the power of knowledge is fun!

MULLING IT OVER - PEER PRESSURE
Others have a great impact on our behavior. We learned that those we know the best are the ones who have the easiest time making us do what we don't really want to do! Read some students' thoughts on today's activity:
"I think I'm good at not letting people get to me. I don't let them boss me around when I know I shouldn't give in that easily." -Mary
"I'm not easy to tempt because I think I'm a leader and do my own thing. This will help me thoughout my life because in high school and college people will try to tempt me to do bad things." -Tyler
"I'm good at not being tempted because I can distract myself in my head by thinking of something else." -Audrey
John James Audubon's birds in oil pastel!
John James Audubon (1785-1851) inspired the artwork we began this week. Drawings of Audubon's illustrations are the centerpiece of "stained glass" artwork. Each student chose the bird they wanted to illustrate, designed their stained glass "window", and free-handed their artwork! Aren't they doing a great job?
"HOME SWEET HUT"
Our sixth graders were responsible for the January 27th chapel service. They did a wonderful job teaching us about anger and what God teaches us about how to handle that difficult emotion. Here is the main crew - back row from left to right: Christian (the professor), Noah (Mr. Howell), Sydney (Ginger), Rachel (MaryAnn), Sydney (Mrs. Howell), and front row: Caleb (the skipper), and Jalen (Gilligan).
GREAT JOB, KIDS!
FANTASTIC START TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
We're back in the saddle! What a wonderful start to the school year. Eighteen eager minds, ready to cooperate and put their whole heart into everything we do. I have really enjoyed getting to know this group of children. They worked very hard all morning on Math, Religion, English, and Keyboarding/Computers (ask about your child's keyboarding words per minute), so we took a break before heading down to lunch. We went out on the front lawn and took some pictures! Tomorrow we'll begin our first art project, so check back soon for pictures!

And the evening was a success!
Great job, kids! You did some marvelous works of art AND you did a magnificent job of showing your family members through the "gallery".
